I've been visiting Indian children on their reservation in Arizona. What I saw shocked me beyond belief. Many conditions are horrible--a total disgrace that these Native Americans would be trapped in such cruel misery.

Many Indian families live far below the government's “poverty level”. 4 out of 5 adults are unemployed. The lucky ones manage to live longer than 46 years, the average life expectancy. Many homes are one-room huts with no heating, plumbing or electricity. Most of the cooking is done outside--rain or shine, winter or summer. Clean water is often virtually impossible to get, without expensive hauling from distant wells.

Thousands of Indian children cry themselves to sleep at night--hungry, sick, with no sense of hope or even a chance at life. Many of these children will die needlessly. This is an American national tragedy.
